The Division of Surgical Sciences has enjoyed a rich history of significant scientific accomplishments in many highly varied basic and clinical research areas over the past 35 years, due in large part to the extensive pool of research talent within the Division.  Along with the faculty in the Division of Surgical Sciences, there is an additional pool of highly talented investigators from other divisions within the Department of Surgery who hold secondary appointments in Surgical Sciences.  To further encourage productive scientific collaborations within the Department, all Surgical Sciences primary faculty also hold secondary appointments in other divisions.

The structure of the Division of Surgical Sciences is based on a programmatic matrix designed to promote research synergy and facilitate both intra-divisional and intra-departmental scientific collaborations.  Research programs in the Division include: Cardiovascular Biology, Cancer, Vaccines, Molecular/Nano Therapeutics, Immunology, and Transplantation.  Due to the overall breadth in scientific interest and expertise, most primary and secondary faculty actively participate in multiple divisional programs.

The Division is especially proud of its mentoring efforts over the past three decades and remains fully committed to the mentoring of young scientists in training who will become the future leaders within the scientific community.  The Division also receives significant administrative and financial support from the Department of Surgery.  Divisional funds are used to support many activities that are critical to ongoing and future research initiatives.

The Division of Surgical Sciences known internationally for its excellence and groundbreaking research, is well positioned to serve the interests of the highly dedicated scientists within the Division and their pursuit of meaningful research contributions that will benefit all of mankind.
